Laptop Replacement Monitor

connecting laptop to television monitor?

Ok, went to radio shack and purchased a (1.8m)VGA/Super VGA monitor replacement cable so I can use my television screen as my monitor. I hooked it up and was able to see the start up on my t.v. screen, but when my laptop was finished uploading and the main screen came on, my T.V. screen went blank. Why did it do that and how can I get it going? Is there another cable I can use, or Is my T.V. not compatable? My Laptop is a Toshiba Satalitte(2 years old), and my T.V. Is an HP flatscreen, also 2 yrs old.

Most laptops can support dual output modes. By default, they tend to stick with the laptop screen, it might not have been able to determine the max resolution of your TV set. You can change this in a number of ways.

Most laptops have a built in hotkey conbination to switch monitor modes. For a lot of models and makes, its the Fn key + F5 – you may need to ask or see if the manual says.

The other way is to enter the display settings – you can sometimes manually siwtch the port from there.
